David Burgess Concert Information

On Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at 8:00 PM one of America's finest guitarists will play a concert on the Classical Guitar at the All Saints Episcopal Church on 1710 South Foothill Drive in Salt Lake City. This concert is part of the 2000-2001 Guitar Master Series, and is jointly supported by a grant from the Utah Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, Washington, D.C.

Tickets are available online, from local UCGS ticket outlets, and at the door.  Tickets are priced at $15, $13 for advance tickets, students, seniors and members or $25 for the entire family (under 12 is free). Call 531-7066 for additional information.

 

David Burgess Bio

A pupil of the legendary guitarist Andres Segovia, Burgess will perform guitar music of Spain and Latin America, in addition to a Bach suite for the lute, transcribed for the guitar.

Burgess is the winner of several international classical guitar competitions, including Guitar Competition '81 in Toronto, the Ponce International Competition in Mexico City, and the 31st International Music Competition in Munich.

He began his studies at the Guitarristico in Mexico City with the Argentine guitarist Manuel Lopez Ramos, and later earned a diploma di merito from the Accademia Musicale in Siena, Italy, and a music degree from the University of Washington.

In 1984, he was selected as the first recipient of the Andres Segovia Fellowship.

Burgess has performed in solo recitals to critical acclaim throughout North and South America, Europe and the Far East. As an orchestra soloist, he has performed with the American Chamber Orchestra at the Kennedy Center.

A resident of New York, he now performs frequently in Town Hall and the Carnegie Recital hall, and at the Lincoln Center. His latest CDs are for the Musical Heritage Society, Athena, Camerata, and the CBS Masterworks label.
